                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 569
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Kelly Burns of Austin, who is Mrs. Texas United America
 for 2008; and
 WHEREAS, Kelly Burns received her crown as Mrs. Texas
 United America on June 22, 2008; she was the first runner-up in
 the Mrs. United America national pageant in October; she is a
 childbirth educator, birthing assistant, and skin care
 technician, and she has run a successful weight loss clinic; she
 is the wife of Bruce Burns and the mother of two children; and
 WHEREAS, Kelly is dedicated to a healthy way of life, and
 she encourages others to take care of themselves and avoid
 substances that can harm them; her main platform as Mrs. Texas
 United America has been her promotion of a tobacco-free lifestyle
 for young people; and
 WHEREAS, She is a longtime volunteer, and she has supported
 such organizations as the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the
 Make-A-Wish Foundation, Safe Place, the Blue Santa program, and
 the American Cancer Society; she received a Gold Presidential
 Volunteer Service Award in 2004; and
 WHEREAS, Kelly will crown a new Mrs. Texas United America
 in June, 2009, but she will continue her volunteer work and her
 efforts to keep young people from smoking; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend Kelly Burns for her volunteer
 services and congratulate her on her reign as Mrs. Texas United
 America for 2008; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
