11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 586
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Madison Davis on the occasion of the statewide
44 commemoration of the Month of the Military Child, which is being
55 celebrated in April, 2009; and
66 WHEREAS, As part of the celebration, the Texas Senate
77 Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations
88 sponsored an Art and Poetry Contest for children whose parents
99 are current or recent members of the military forces; Madison was
1010 selected a winner in the art contest; she is a fourth-grade
1111 student at Clear Creek Elementary School in Fort Hood, and her
1212 art will remain on display at the State Capitol throughout the
1313 legislative session; and
1414 WHEREAS, The Month of the Military Child was established in
1515 1986 to honor the importance of the children whose parents serve
1616 our nation in the armed forces; and
1717 WHEREAS, Military children face unique challenges as they
1818 grow up in a military family; over the course of a military career
1919 the average family moves nine times, forcing a young person to
2020 change schools and say goodbye to friends and familiar faces, and
2121 long overseas deployments also present special difficulties for
2222 children and parents; and
2323 WHEREAS, Madison has faced these challenges with courage
2424 and composure, providing her parents with steadfast support as
2525 they fulfill their duty in service to our nation; her resilience
2626 and self-confidence are truly deserving of recognition as we
2727 celebrate the Month of the Military Child; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
2929 Legislature, hereby commend Madison Davis on her important role
3030 in maintaining the morale of our armed forces while meeting the
3131 unique challenges of the military way of life; and, be it further
3232 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3333 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
