SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 586
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Madison Davis on the occasion of the statewide
commemoration of the Month of the Military Child, which is being
celebrated in April, 2009; and
WHEREAS, As part of the celebration, the Texas Senate
Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations
sponsored an Art and Poetry Contest for children whose parents
are current or recent members of the military forces; Madison was
selected a winner in the art contest; she is a fourth-grade
student at Clear Creek Elementary School in Fort Hood, and her
art will remain on display at the State Capitol throughout the
legislative session; and
WHEREAS, The Month of the Military Child was established in
1986 to honor the importance of the children whose parents serve
our nation in the armed forces; and
WHEREAS, Military children face unique challenges as they
grow up in a military family; over the course of a military career
the average family moves nine times, forcing a young person to
change schools and say goodbye to friends and familiar faces, and
long overseas deployments also present special difficulties for
children and parents; and
WHEREAS, Madison has faced these challenges with courage
and composure, providing her parents with steadfast support as
they fulfill their duty in service to our nation; her resilience
and self-confidence are truly deserving of recognition as we
celebrate the Month of the Military Child; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
Legislature, hereby commend Madison Davis on her important role
in maintaining the morale of our armed forces while meeting the
unique challenges of the military way of life; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
