| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Richard Bentley, the recipient of the Adelante Con |

| 4 | 4 | | Ganas Award for April of 2009; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bentley is the Associate Superintendent of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the Division of Academics for the Ysleta Independent School |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | District; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bentley received an associate of arts degree |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | at the University of Maryland in Munich, Germany, a bachelor's |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | degree from The University of Texas at Austin, a master's degree |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | in educational administration from Southwest Texas State |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | University, and a doctorate in educational administration from |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | The University of Texas at Austin; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bentley has taught at Houston's High School |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for the Performing and Visual Arts, where he participated in the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | development of the first school in the country built specifically |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | for performing arts; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bentley also served Eanes Independent School |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | District in Austin as a high school and middle school assistant |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | principal and as interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and Instruction; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bentley and his wife were recognized by the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, Region XIII, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | as Outstanding High School and Middle School Assistant |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Principals in 1993; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure at Ysleta Independent School |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | District, Dr. Bentley has coordinated the implementation of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | curriculum, assessment, and school improvement models; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bentley has also been a champion for El Paso's |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | "Invest in the American Dream" initiative to promote financial |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | literacy and stability; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Richard Bentley for his |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | contributions to the City of El Paso and extend to him |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | congratulations on receiving the Adelante Con Ganas Award; and, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | be it further |
