1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 614
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Joe G. Rivera, who has been selected for the
4	4	prestigious Distinguished Citizen Award by the Boy Scouts of
5	5	America; and
6	6	WHEREAS, The Distinguished Citizen Award is given to an
7	7	individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership as a
8	8	volunteer in the community; and
9	9	WHEREAS, As the county clerk for Cameron County, Joe Rivera
10	10	directs the overall functions of the office, implements laws
11	11	passed by the state legislature, and is responsible for the
12	12	administration of three county courts at law; he is noted for
13	13	having implemented the automation of county records and for
14	14	establishing branch offices for the northern part of the county
15	15	without increasing personnel; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Joe long ago established his willingness to share
17	17	his time and his resources with his community, and he has been a
18	18	strong advocate for the Boy Scouts of America; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Over the years, he has shared his leadership
20	20	skills with a number of professional and civic associations; he
21	21	served as president of the board of directors for United Way of
22	22	Cameron County, the Mr. Amigo Association, and the Brownsville
23	23	Jaycees; he has been a volunteer and active participant with the
24	24	Optimist Club, Charro Days, and Saint Luke's Catholic Church; and
25	25	WHEREAS, It is because of the dedication and commitment of
26	26	volunteers like Joe Rivera that the Boy Scout program can prepare
27	27	young people to become good citizens and future leaders; he
28	28	inspires others by the life he leads, and he is indeed worthy of
29	29	recognition for his service to his community; now, therefore, be it
30	30	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
31	31	Legislature, hereby commend Joe G. Rivera for his exemplary
32	32	service to his community and congratulate him on his selection
33	33	for the Distinguished Citizen Award; and, be it further
34	34	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
35	35	him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
