SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 614 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Joe G. Rivera, who has been selected for the prestigious Distinguished Citizen Award by the Boy Scouts of America; and WHEREAS, The Distinguished Citizen Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership as a volunteer in the community; and WHEREAS, As the county clerk for Cameron County, Joe Rivera directs the overall functions of the office, implements laws passed by the state legislature, and is responsible for the administration of three county courts at law; he is noted for having implemented the automation of county records and for establishing branch offices for the northern part of the county without increasing personnel; and WHEREAS, Joe long ago established his willingness to share his time and his resources with his community, and he has been a strong advocate for the Boy Scouts of America; and WHEREAS, Over the years, he has shared his leadership skills with a number of professional and civic associations; he served as president of the board of directors for United Way of Cameron County, the Mr. Amigo Association, and the Brownsville Jaycees; he has been a volunteer and active participant with the Optimist Club, Charro Days, and Saint Luke's Catholic Church; and WHEREAS, It is because of the dedication and commitment of volunteers like Joe Rivera that the Boy Scout program can prepare young people to become good citizens and future leaders; he inspires others by the life he leads, and he is indeed worthy of recognition for his service to his community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Joe G. Rivera for his exemplary service to his community and congratulate him on his selection for the Distinguished Citizen Award; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
