| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Harris County Hospital District--Health Care for |

| 4 | 4 | | the Homeless Program, which is celebrating Nurses Week May 6 |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | through 12, 2009; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Harris County Hospital District--Health Care |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | for the Homeless Program was created in 1987 to advance the goals |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of the Stewart B. McKinney Act; the program has focused on |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | improving the health status of homeless individuals and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | increasing cooperation among the agencies that provide services |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to the homeless population; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The nurse practitioners of this exemplary program |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | provide health care to homeless individuals at 11 homeless |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | shelters and through two mobile health units and a mobile dental |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | unit; the health care teams also provide eligibility assistance |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and case management, and they work with the homeless population |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to encourage preventive practices to improve overall health; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, This sterling program is justly deserving of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | acknowledgement for its compassionate work with the less |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | fortunate among us; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Harris County Hospital |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | District--Health Care for the Homeless Program on its |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | exceptional work in fostering good health among the homeless |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | population and extend best wishes for a memorable Nurses Week |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | celebration; and, be it further |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
