SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 621 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Harris County Hospital District--Health Care for the Homeless Program, which is celebrating Nurses Week May 6 through 12, 2009; and WHEREAS, The Harris County Hospital District--Health Care for the Homeless Program was created in 1987 to advance the goals of the Stewart B. McKinney Act; the program has focused on improving the health status of homeless individuals and increasing cooperation among the agencies that provide services to the homeless population; and WHEREAS, The nurse practitioners of this exemplary program provide health care to homeless individuals at 11 homeless shelters and through two mobile health units and a mobile dental unit; the health care teams also provide eligibility assistance and case management, and they work with the homeless population to encourage preventive practices to improve overall health; and WHEREAS, This sterling program is justly deserving of acknowledgement for its compassionate work with the less fortunate among us; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the Harris County Hospital District--Health Care for the Homeless Program on its exceptional work in fostering good health among the homeless population and extend best wishes for a memorable Nurses Week celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this outstanding program as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
