11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 628
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 congratulate attorney Kelly-Ann F. Clarke on her election as
44 Chair of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division; and
55 WHEREAS, The American Bar Association Young Lawyers
66 Division represents a membership of over 153,000 young lawyers
77 from across the United States and seeks to assure that the legal
88 profession reflects the society it serves while providing young
99 lawyers with the tools and opportunity to succeed both
1010 professionally and personally; and
1111 WHEREAS, Kelly-Ann Clarke is an attorney with Greer, Herz
1212 and Adams, LLP, and her practice focuses on complex commercial
1313 litigation; she earned a bachelor's degree from Duke University
1414 and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center; she
1515 was admitted to practice in Texas in 2000; and
1616 WHEREAS, Born in Kingston, Jamaica, to Godfrey and Fayette
1717 Clarke, Kelly-Ann Clarke immigrated to Houston with her family at
1818 the age of six; she became a citizen of the United States on
1919 November 26, 1996, which enabled her to experience the proudest
2020 moment of her young life, the act of voting in her first
2121 presidential election; and
2222 WHEREAS, Kelly-Ann Clarke is an active leader in numerous
2323 professional associations, including the Galveston County Young
2424 Lawyers Association, the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the
2525 American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, the As One
2626 Foundation, and the Galveston Chamber of Commerce; and
2727 WHEREAS, As a member of the Texas Young Lawyers Association
2828 Board of Directors, she coproduced two significant historical
2929 documentaries on civil rights, They Had a Dream Too: Young
3030 Leaders of the Civil Rights Movement and Vote America! Honor the
3131 Fight, Exercise Your Right, sharing a regional Emmy Award for the
3232 former; as Chair of the Young Lawyers Division, she plans to
3333 continue to educate others on the importance of civil rights and
3434 the importance of civil duty; and
3535 WHEREAS, Kelly-Ann Clarke is a role model for all young
3636 Texans and a valued asset to the Texas legal community, and she
3737 deserves recognition for her many accomplishments; now,
3838 therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
4040 Legislature, hereby congratulate Kelly-Ann F. Clarke on her
4141 election as Chair of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers
4242 Division and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
4343 success; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4545 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
