| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Austin Young Lawyers Association on the occasion of |

| 4 | 4 | | its 50th anniversary, which is being celebrated April 17, 2009; |

| 5 | 5 | | and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, An affiliate of the Texas Young Lawyers |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Association and the Young Lawyer Division of the American Bar |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Association, the Austin Young Lawyers Association is known for |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | its tradition of excellent service to the law profession and to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The members of the association share a vision of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | justice through service, and its talented and energetic young |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | lawyers have made a difference in the legal profession and the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Austin community by planning and implementing a wide range of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | projects; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Projects sponsored by the association include |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Vote-America, which is presented to high school seniors to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | explain the importance of voting, and They Had a Dream Too, which |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | enlightens students about the role students played in the civil |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | rights movement; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The association also hosts Christmas for Kids, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | which is a party for local foster children, and Holiday Baskets, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | which provides food and gifts to families in need during the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | holiday season; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Membership in the association is open to any |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | lawyer who is 36 years of age or younger, or who has been licensed |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | to practice law for less than three years, and the organization |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | boasts more than 1,000 members and close to 20 annual service and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | member projects; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Austin Young Lawyers Association |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | on its 50 years of outstanding service to the community and to the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | legal profession; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | honor of this association. |
