SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 629 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Austin Young Lawyers Association on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, which is being celebrated April 17, 2009; and WHEREAS, An affiliate of the Texas Young Lawyers Association and the Young Lawyer Division of the American Bar Association, the Austin Young Lawyers Association is known for its tradition of excellent service to the law profession and to the community; and WHEREAS, The members of the association share a vision of justice through service, and its talented and energetic young lawyers have made a difference in the legal profession and the Austin community by planning and implementing a wide range of projects; and WHEREAS, Projects sponsored by the association include Vote-America, which is presented to high school seniors to explain the importance of voting, and They Had a Dream Too, which enlightens students about the role students played in the civil rights movement; and WHEREAS, The association also hosts Christmas for Kids, which is a party for local foster children, and Holiday Baskets, which provides food and gifts to families in need during the holiday season; and WHEREAS, Membership in the association is open to any lawyer who is 36 years of age or younger, or who has been licensed to practice law for less than three years, and the organization boasts more than 1,000 members and close to 20 annual service and member projects; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the Austin Young Lawyers Association on its 50 years of outstanding service to the community and to the legal profession; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this association.
