| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 4 | 4 | | the state in celebrating May 6, 2009, as The Republican Women of |

| 5 | 5 | | Yoakum Day at the Capitol; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, With a mission to promote Republican philosophy |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in the surrounding area, The Republican Women of Yoakum have |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | played an important role in their community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Republican Women of Yoakum have provided |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | unstinting support to the men and women serving in the armed |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | forces; the club participates in the 6X9 program, making afghans |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | for injured service members, and it has donated telephone cards |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | worth almost $1,500 to Brooke Army Medical Center outpatients; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding organization has demonstrated |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | support and devotion to the area's young people, donating books |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to local schools, sponsoring an essay contest on the United |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | States Constitution for high school students, and providing |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | pocket-sized copies of the Constitution to high school seniors; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The club's community involvement also includes |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | providing a Christmas tree to the museum, organizing numerous |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | educational programs, and serving as a gold sponsor for a local |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | hospice group; it is truly deserving of recognition for its many |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | contributions to the people of Lavaca and DeWitt Counties; now, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of The Republican Women |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of Yoakum on their service to the community and extend to them |

| 30 | 30 | | best wishes for a memorable and rewarding Day at the Capitol; |
