                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 632
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 join the citizens of Lavaca and DeWitt Counties and Texans across
 the state in celebrating May 6, 2009, as The Republican Women of
 Yoakum Day at the Capitol; and
 WHEREAS, With a mission to promote Republican philosophy
 in the surrounding area, The Republican Women of Yoakum have
 played an important role in their community; and
 WHEREAS, The Republican Women of Yoakum have provided
 unstinting support to the men and women serving in the armed
 forces; the club participates in the 6X9 program, making afghans
 for injured service members, and it has donated telephone cards
 worth almost $1,500 to Brooke Army Medical Center outpatients;
 and
 WHEREAS, This outstanding organization has demonstrated
 support and devotion to the area's young people, donating books
 to local schools, sponsoring an essay contest on the United
 States Constitution for high school students, and providing
 pocket-sized copies of the Constitution to high school seniors;
 and
 WHEREAS, The club's community involvement also includes
 providing a Christmas tree to the museum, organizing numerous
 educational programs, and serving as a gold sponsor for a local
 hospice group; it is truly deserving of recognition for its many
 contributions to the people of Lavaca and DeWitt Counties; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend the members of The Republican Women
 of Yoakum on their service to the community and extend to them
 best wishes for a memorable and rewarding Day at the Capitol;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
