| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Yolanda Garcia Olivarez, who has been selected as a |

| 4 | 4 | | 2009 Texas Sor Juana Women of Achievement honoree; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sor Juana Ins de la Cruz was a 17th-century |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Mexican nun, poet, mathematician, and brilliant intellectual who |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | challenged her culture and religion with her belief that women |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | have a right to an education and creative freedom; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Yolanda Olivarez, a senior vice president at |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Wells Fargo, has been active in many Corpus Christi community |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | groups through the years; she served for 12 years as a Corpus |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Christi port commissioner and has worked with such diverse |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | organizations as the American Heart Association, the Coastal |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Bend Bays and Estuaries Program, and the Del Mar College |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Foundation; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, She worked with the Corpus Christi Community |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Development Corporation in partnership with other groups to aid |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | many Corpus Christi families in acquiring homes of their own; she |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | is a devoted wife to her husband, Rolando Olivarez, and a loving |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | mother to her daughter, Sophia Olivarez; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Yolanda Olivarez has exemplified the courage, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | creativity, and determination of Sor Juana Ins de la Cruz, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | she is truly deserving of this prestigious award; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Yolanda Garcia Olivarez on her many |

| 27 | 27 | | accomplishments and extend congratulations to her on being named |

| 28 | 28 | | a 2009 Texas Sor Juana Woman of Achievement; and, be it further |
