SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 672 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Honorable Donald L. Williams of El Paso, president and charter member of the Black El Paso Democrats, for his longtime leadership and service to his community; and WHEREAS, Donald Williams has been a member of the legal profession since 1975 and has served as a visiting judge for District 171; as a jurist, he was noted for the large volume of cases he heard and the excellent management of his court; he was a member of the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1977 to 1983; and WHEREAS, He has been an active leader in civil rights issues and the Democratic Party for many years; he served as a delegate to the national Democratic Convention, and he served as chair of the El Paso Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; and WHEREAS, He earned renown as the first African American student to serve as president of the student body at The University of Texas at El Paso; he serves as a member of the board of directors of the El Paso Bar Association and president of the Theta Delta Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; and WHEREAS, Noted for his high moral and ethical standards, Donald Williams encourages his fellow El Paso citizens to become involved and take leadership roles to make their community a better place to live; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Judge Donald L. Williams for his leadership and his many contributions to the City of El Paso and to this state; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
