SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 695 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. Gretchen M. Bataille, who has been named the Communities In Schools of North Texas Advocate of the Year; and WHEREAS, The Advocate of the Year award is bestowed on an individual who champions the spirit of Communities In Schools by helping students with the multiple challenges they face in the process of obtaining a high school diploma and pursuing the possibility of higher education; and WHEREAS, It is with those challenges in mind that Dr. Bataille laid the groundwork for the Emerald Eagle Scholars Program at the University of North Texas; since its inception in 2007, this outstanding program has helped to fulfill the dream of going to college for more than 700 students; and WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of North Texas is part of the nationwide dropout prevention network that helps students to improve in academics, attendance, and behavior and encourages young people to pursue postsecondary goals; and WHEREAS, Through the Emerald Eagle Scholars Program and her leadership and advocacy on behalf of the young people of North Texas, Dr. Bataille has had a major impact on the lives of area students and their families, and she deserves recognition for her exemplary dedication and exceptional success; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Gretchen M. Bataille for helping the students of North Texas with their educational pursuits and extend congratulations to her on being named Advocate of the Year by Communities In Schools of North Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Dr. Bataille as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
