| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Saint John Missionary Baptist Church of Houston on the |

| 4 | 4 | | occasion of the dedication of its new sanctuary on April 26, |

| 5 | 5 | | 2009; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, For over 100 years, the Saint John Missionary |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Baptist Church has ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of the citizens of Houston and surrounding areas; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | pastors and to the outstanding leadership of its current pastor, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Dr. Kevin Johnson, the church has continued to grow and to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | undertake many worthy projects within the community; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Members of the congregation are involved in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | activities that promote academic excellence and self-esteem, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | community safety, and high-quality care for the elderly, homeless, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and indigent; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The church has been an invaluable source of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | strength to its members during their hardships and in difficult |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | times, and the dedication of its new sanctuary is an opportunity |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to celebrate the many gifts the church has bestowed on the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | community throughout its long history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of Saint John Missionary Baptist Church on the joyous occasion of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the dedication of its new sanctuary; and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
