SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 713
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Saint John Missionary Baptist Church of Houston on the
occasion of the dedication of its new sanctuary on April 26,
2009; and
WHEREAS, For over 100 years, the Saint John Missionary
Baptist Church has ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs
of the citizens of Houston and surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its
pastors and to the outstanding leadership of its current pastor,
Dr. Kevin Johnson, the church has continued to grow and to
undertake many worthy projects within the community; and
WHEREAS, Members of the congregation are involved in
activities that promote academic excellence and self-esteem,
community safety, and high-quality care for the elderly, homeless,
and indigent; and
WHEREAS, The church has been an invaluable source of
strength to its members during their hardships and in difficult
times, and the dedication of its new sanctuary is an opportunity
to celebrate the many gifts the church has bestowed on the
community throughout its long history; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members
of Saint John Missionary Baptist Church on the joyous occasion of
the dedication of its new sanctuary; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the church in honor of this occasion.
