| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Vanessa Hernandez, who has completed the requirements |

| 4 | 4 | | for earning a Girl Scout Gold Award; this fine young woman is |

| 5 | 5 | | being presented the coveted award by the Girl Scouts of Southwest |

| 6 | 6 | | Texas on May 17, 2009; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | that can be earned by girls between the ages of 14 and 18; only a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | few Girl Scouts attain this distinguished honor; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Girl Scouts develop leadership and organizational |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | skills through the process of earning a Gold Award, and their |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | commitment to the betterment of their community forms the basis |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | for a lifetime of active citizenship; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Vanessa has shown leadership by designing and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | implementing a service project that will be of lasting benefit to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | her community; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, Vanessa has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | brought great honor to herself, her family, and her community; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | she is truly a shining example to the young people of this state; |

| 20 | 20 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby commend Vanessa Hernandez on earning the |

| 23 | 23 | | Girl Scout Gold Award and congratulate her on this outstanding |
