                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 727
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Vanessa Hernandez, who has completed the requirements
 for earning a Girl Scout Gold Award; this fine young woman is
 being presented the coveted award by the Girl Scouts of Southwest
 Texas on May 17, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award
 that can be earned by girls between the ages of 14 and 18; only a
 few Girl Scouts attain this distinguished honor; and
 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts develop leadership and organizational
 skills through the process of earning a Gold Award, and their
 commitment to the betterment of their community forms the basis
 for a lifetime of active citizenship; and
 WHEREAS, Vanessa has shown leadership by designing and
 implementing a service project that will be of lasting benefit to
 her community; and
 WHEREAS, By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, Vanessa has
 brought great honor to herself, her family, and her community;
 she is truly a shining example to the young people of this state;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend Vanessa Hernandez on earning the
 Girl Scout Gold Award and congratulate her on this outstanding
 accomplishment; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
