4	4	Bruce Montgomery Withers, Jr.
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
6	6	citizens of The Woodlands in mourning the loss of Bruce
7	7	Montgomery Withers, Jr., who died April 13, 2009, at the age of
8	8	82; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Bruce Withers was a retired oil and gas industry
10	10	executive who had lived in The Woodlands for more than 30 years;
11	11	he was involved in many civic organizations and was a member of
12	12	the first board of directors of the Town Center Improvement
13	13	District for which he served as vice chairman for 12 years; and
14	14	WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, he was instrumental in
15	15	building the religious community in The Woodlands; he had been a
16	16	deacon of the First Baptist Church of The Woodlands since 1978
17	17	and served on the board of directors for Interfaith of The
18	18	Woodlands; he was known for his good will and his good works and
19	19	for an unassuming nature that endeared him to all who knew him;
20	20	the community recognized him as its Hometown Hero in 2006; and
21	21	WHEREAS, He was born in Stockdale, Texas, on October 11,
22	22	1926; he postponed his college career to serve his country during
23	23	World War II; he volunteered for the Army Air Force cadet program
24	24	in June of 1944 and served primarily in the first wave of
25	25	occupation troops in Tokyo, Japan; in 1950 he married Ruby Mae
26	26	Lindholm and they spent 58 years together; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Withers
28	28	enrolled at Texas A&I University and earned a bachelor of science
29	29	degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering; he was an active
30	30	alumnus in his alma mater; he served as president of the alumni
31	31	association and received the university's Distinguished Alumni
32	32	Award; and
33	33	WHEREAS, He had a successful career that spanned some 47
34	34	years and included working at Tenneco Oil Company and serving as
35	35	president of Mitchell Energy and Development Corporation and as
36	36	chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of
37	37	Trident NGL, Incorporated; during his career, he held leadership
38	38	positions with a number of professional associations and
39	39	received the prestigious Hanlon Award from the Gas Processors
40	40	Association in 1990; after retiring in 1997, he continued to
41	41	serve on several boards of directors; and
42	42	WHEREAS, Bruce Withers will long be remembered for his
43	43	civic leadership and his commitment to The Woodlands community,
44	44	for his generosity of spirit, and for his devotion to his family;
45	45	a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, he leaves behind
46	46	memories that will be treasured forever by all those whose lives
47	47	he touched; now, therefore, be it
48	48	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
49	49	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
50	50	family of Bruce Montgomery Withers, Jr.: his wife of 58 years,
51	51	Ruby Lindholm Withers; his daughter, Robin Withers Winegar and
52	52	her husband, Richard; and his grandson, Andrew Winegar; and, be
53	53	it further
54	54	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
55	55	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
56	56	Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
57	57	memory of Bruce Montgomery Withers, Jr.
