| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay |

| 3 | 3 | | tribute to the Reverend Rudolph R. Rodriguez on the momentous |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | occasion of his 85th birthday; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Rudolph Rodriguez was born May 3, 1924, in the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | heart of the Westside neighborhood in San Antonio, where he still |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | resides; he enlisted in the United States Naval Air Corps in 1942 |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and served in the North Pacific; he then had a distinguished |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | career with the United States Postal Service for 35 years; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, He has long been a leader in his community; he |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | joined the League of United Latin American Citizens in 1946 and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | was involved with forming the first LULAC scholarship committee; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | he was his community's precinct chair for more than 20 years; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After retiring from his job with the postal |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | service, Rudolph Rodriguez had more time to devote to his beloved |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Westside community and he served with several neighborhood |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | groups; he was president of the advisory board for Grace Lutheran |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Hospital and worked in programs relating to autism in children |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and teenage pregnancy; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In his continuing efforts for personal growth, he |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | attended the Oblate School of Theology and was ordained a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | permanent deacon of the Catholic Church; he serves in Sacred |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Heart Parish, a church located in the heart of his beloved |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | neighborhood; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the Reverend Rudolph R. Rodriguez |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | as a valued citizen of the State of Texas and join his family and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | many friends in extending to him best wishes for a wonderful |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | birthday celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Reverend Rodriguez to commemorate this special day in his life. |
