                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 806
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
 tribute to the Reverend Rudolph R. Rodriguez on the momentous
 occasion of his 85th birthday; and
 WHEREAS, Rudolph Rodriguez was born May 3, 1924, in the
 heart of the Westside neighborhood in San Antonio, where he still
 resides; he enlisted in the United States Naval Air Corps in 1942
 and served in the North Pacific; he then had a distinguished
 career with the United States Postal Service for 35 years; and
 WHEREAS, He has long been a leader in his community; he
 joined the League of United Latin American Citizens in 1946 and
 was involved with forming the first LULAC scholarship committee;
 he was his community's precinct chair for more than 20 years; and
 WHEREAS, After retiring from his job with the postal
 service, Rudolph Rodriguez had more time to devote to his beloved
 Westside community and he served with several neighborhood
 groups; he was president of the advisory board for Grace Lutheran
 Hospital and worked in programs relating to autism in children
 and teenage pregnancy; and
 WHEREAS, In his continuing efforts for personal growth, he
 attended the Oblate School of Theology and was ordained a
 permanent deacon of the Catholic Church; he serves in Sacred
 Heart Parish, a church located in the heart of his beloved
 neighborhood; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby recognize the Reverend Rudolph R. Rodriguez
 as a valued citizen of the State of Texas and join his family and
 many friends in extending to him best wishes for a wonderful
 birthday celebration; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 Reverend Rodriguez to commemorate this special day in his life.
