SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 816 WHEREAS, Since it was organized on April 13, 1857, the American Institute of Architects has grown to become the largest and most influential professional association for architects in the world, with more than 300 component organizations in the United States and abroad, including 17 chapters in Texas, combining to represent the interests of over 80,000 members; and WHEREAS, The Texas Society of Architects, organized in 1939, serves as the state component of the American Institute of Architects, representing the interests of more than 6,500 members; and WHEREAS, Texas architects have played a significant role in developing and enhancing the state's quality of life, applying building technology and design innovation to help create attractive, safe, functional public and private spaces; and WHEREAS, Texas architects provide crucial stewardship of the great architectural and historic treasures of the state; and WHEREAS, With their unique education and training in sustainable design, Texas architects employ thoughtful and ecologically mindful design solutions to have a positive impact on the state's natural and built environments; and WHEREAS, Throughout the history of the State of Texas, architects have played a vital role in envisioning, designing, and building the public and private spaces that people occupy daily, be it to live, learn, work, worship, heal, or gather as a proud community of Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby recognize May 4, 2009, as Architect Appreciation Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Texas Society of Architects as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
