12 | 12 | payment of a fee for the issuance of a personal identification | |

14 | 14 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
15 | 15 | SECTION 1. Section 521.426(a), Transportation Code, is | |
16 | 16 | amended to read as follows: | |
17 | 17 | (a) Except as provided by Subsection (c), a veteran of | |
18 | 18 | service in the armed forces of the United States is exempt from the | |
19 | 19 | payment of fees under this chapter for the issuance of a driver's | |
20 | 20 | license or personal identification certificate if the veteran: | |
21 | 21 | (1) was honorably discharged; | |
22 | 22 | (2) has a service-related disability of at least 60 | |
23 | 23 | percent; and | |
24 | 24 | (3) receives compensation from the United States | |
25 | 25 | because of the disability. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | |
