1010 relating to the authority of certain political subdivisions to
1111 change the date of their general elections.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Sections 41.0052(a) and (a-1), Election Code,
1414 are amended to read as follows:
1515 (a) [The governing body of a political subdivision other
1616 than a county may, not later than December 31, 2005, change the date
1717 on which it holds its general election for officers to another
1818 authorized uniform election date.
1919 [(a-1)] The governing body of a political subdivision,
2020 other than a county, that holds its general election for officers on
2121 a date other than the November uniform election date may, not later
2222 than December 31, 2012 [2010], change the date on which it holds its
2323 general election for officers to the November uniform election
2424 date.
2525 SECTION 2. Section 41.0053, Election Code, is repealed.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2727 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2828 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2929 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3030 Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
