10	10	relating to the authority of certain political subdivisions to
11	11	change the date of their general elections.
12	12	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
13	13	SECTION 1. Sections 41.0052(a) and (a-1), Election Code,
14	14	are amended to read as follows:
15	15	(a) [The governing body of a political subdivision other
16	16	than a county may, not later than December 31, 2005, change the date
17	17	on which it holds its general election for officers to another
18	18	authorized uniform election date.
19	19	[(a-1)] The governing body of a political subdivision,
20	20	other than a county, that holds its general election for officers on
21	21	a date other than the November uniform election date may, not later
22	22	than December 31, 2012 [2010], change the date on which it holds its
23	23	general election for officers to the November uniform election
24	24	date.
25	25	SECTION 2. Section 41.0053, Election Code, is repealed.
26	26	SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
27	27	a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
28	28	provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
29	29	Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
30	30	Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
