13 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

14 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 6.710, Family Code, is amended to read as |
---|
15 | 15 | | follows: |
---|
16 | 16 | | Sec. 6.710. NOTICE [COPY] OF FINAL DECREE. The clerk of the |
---|
17 | 17 | | court shall mail a notice of the signing [copy] of the final decree |
---|
18 | 18 | | of dissolution of a marriage to the party who waived service of |
---|
19 | 19 | | process under Section 6.4035 [by mailing the copy of the decree to |
---|
20 | 20 | | the party] at the mailing address contained in the waiver or [to] |
---|
21 | 21 | | the office of the party's attorney of record. The notice must state |
---|
22 | 22 | | that a copy of the decree is available at the office of the clerk of |
---|
23 | 23 | | the court and include the physical address of that office. |
---|
24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. Section 6.710, Family Code, as amended by this |
---|
25 | 25 | | Act, applies to a suit for dissolution of a marriage filed on or |
---|
26 | 26 | | after the effective date of this Act. A suit for dissolution of a |
---|
27 | 27 | | marriage filed before the effective date of this Act is governed by |
---|
28 | 28 | | the law in effect on the date the suit was filed, and the former law |
---|
29 | 29 | | is continued in effect for that purpose. |
---|
30 | 30 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
31 | 31 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
32 | 32 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
33 | 33 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
34 | 34 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
