99 AN ACT
1010 relating to the form of death certificates and fetal death
1111 certificates.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 193.001, Health and Safety Code, is
1414 amended by adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
1515 (a-1) In prescribing each form under Subsection (a), the
1616 department shall ensure that the form instructs the person required
1717 to file the death certificate or fetal death certificate to:
1818 (1) enter the date in the standard order of "month,
1919 day, year"; and
2020 (2) spell out the name of the month when entering the
2121 date.
2222 SECTION 2. (a) The Department of State Health Services
2323 shall revise and make available the forms required by Section
2424 193.001, Health and Safety Code, as amended by this Act, not later
2525 than January 1, 2012.
2626 (b) A person required to file a death certificate or a fetal
2727 death certificate is not required to use the revised form required
2828 by Section 193.001, Health and Safety Code, as amended by this Act,
2929 before February 1, 2012.
3030 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3131 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3232 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3333 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3434 Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
