                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 8, 2011      TO: Honorable Tommy Williams, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB314 by Hardcastle (Relating to the designation of a portion of U.S. Highway 81 as the Corporal David Slaton Memorial Highway.), As Engrossed    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to design, construct, anderect highway markers designating a portion of U.S. Highway 81 as the Corporal David Slaton Memorial Highway, subject to Section 225.021 (c), Transportation Code. The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each house; otherwise the bill would take effect on September 1, 2011. Section 225.021 (c), Transportation Code, specifies that TxDOT is not required to design, construct, or erect the marker unless a grant or donation of funds is made to the department to cover the cost. Based on the analysis of TxDOT, it is assumed any duties associated with the implementation of the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.
