99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 341, Local Government
1111 Code, is amended by adding Section 341.906 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 341.906. MUNICIPAL REGULATION OF CERTAIN SERVICE DOGS.
1313 (a) In this section, "volunteer search and rescue team" means an
1414 individual or an organized group of volunteers issued a written
1515 document by a law enforcement department that recognizes the
1616 individual or group as a person or group that trains dogs to assist
1717 in the location of a lost or missing person or for law enforcement
1818 purposes.
1919 (b) A municipality may not adopt or enforce an ordinance,
2020 including a leash law, that restricts the ability of a volunteer
2121 search and rescue team to train a service dog for search and rescue
2222 or law enforcement purposes.
2323 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
