12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 6, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, is |
---|
14 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 6.004 to read as follows: |

15 | 15 | | Sec. 6.004. SCHOOL DISTRICTS EXEMPT FROM SECURITY FOR COURT |
---|
16 | 16 | | COSTS AND APPEAL BOND. A school district may institute and |
---|
17 | 17 | | prosecute suits without giving security for cost and may appeal |
---|
18 | 18 | | from judgment without giving supersedeas or cost bond. |
---|
19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. Section 6.004, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, |
---|
20 | 20 | | as added by this Act, applies only to a suit or appeal filed on or |
---|
21 | 21 | | after the effective date of this Act. A suit or appeal filed before |
---|
22 | 22 | | the effective date of this Act is governed by the law as it existed |
---|
23 | 23 | | immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is |
---|
24 | 24 | | continued in effect for that purpose. |
---|
25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
