 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Cathedral High School in El Paso is celebrating its
 85th anniversary with a gala on May 7, 2011; and
 WHEREAS, The only Catholic, all-boys high school in the city,
 Cathedral High School was founded by the De La Salle Christian
 Brothers in 1925; the school offers its students a faith-based
 education that prepares them to succeed in college and the world at
 large; more than 5,000 young men have graduated from Cathedral
 since it opened its doors, and many of the school's alumni have gone
 on to become leaders in the community and in their professions; and
 WHEREAS, Guided by its mission "to teach minds and touch
 hearts," Cathedral High School provides its students with a
 first-rate academic curriculum, combined with moral and spiritual
 instruction grounded in Catholic teachings; in 2006 the school
 launched the Center for Advanced Studies, which enables students to
 take college-level classes on campus and earn up to 30 college
 credits before graduating; Cathedral students also enjoy
 opportunities to participate in sports and other extracurricular
 activities, and each year they volunteer their time in the
 community; and
 WHEREAS, "La Cate," as the school is affectionately known,
 draws students from Juarez as well as El Paso, and the fellowship
 that they experience has helped to foster understanding and
 cooperation between the border cities; and
 WHEREAS, For 85 years, Cathedral High School has contributed
 to the academic and spiritual growth of its students, producing
 young men of conscience and compassion, and the tradition of
 excellence it has established is truly worthy of recognition; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 85th anniversary of Cathedral
 High School and extend to all those associated with the school
 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Cathedral High School as an expression of high regard
 by the Texas House of Representatives.
