H.R. No. 1747 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Mecolus C. McDaniel suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this valiant soldier on March 19, 2011, at the age of 33; and WHEREAS, Assigned to the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Staff Sergeant McDaniel was killed while bravely serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan; and WHEREAS, Born on May 13, 1977, Mecolus McDaniel was the son of Joyce Ann Richardson and Morris Anderson III; he joined the army in 1996 and was stationed at Fort Hood; his skill and dedication to duty earned him many honors, including the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he was blessed with the support of a loving family, which included his wife, Sonja, his son, Matthew, and his stepchildren, Jordan, Jasmine, Charlotte, and Charmaine; and WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor, Mecolus McDaniel embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a debt of gratitude that the passage of time can never diminish; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Mecolus C. McDaniel and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Sonja Gilbert-McDaniel; to his son, Matthew McDaniel; to his stepchildren, Jordan, Charlotte, and Charmaine Gilbert and Jasmine Thomas; to his mother, Joyce Ann Richardson; to his father, Morris Anderson III, and his wife, Brenda; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Mecolus C.
