H.R. No. 1968 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, America's veterans hold a revered place in the hearts of their fellow citizens, and on Memorial Day 2011, the people of Terrell are dedicating a memorial to all those from their community who have served in the nation's armed forces; and WHEREAS, Support for this project has come from every quarter of the city; the Terrell Marine Corps League initiated and led the development of the memorial, and league members have also done much of the actual construction; the City of Terrell set aside land for the memorial in City Park, and private citizens, local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and veterans groups have been generous in their contributions of funds and services; and WHEREAS, This imposing monument consists of a 20-foot wall bearing the names of all the known Terrell citizens who have died in this nation's wars from World War I to the present day; in addition, bricks inscribed with the names of men and women who have served in the military or who are currently serving on active duty have been laid around the flagpole and on the walkway to honor the contributions of these notable patriots; and WHEREAS, Memorialized on the wall, so that the magnitude of their devotion and sacrifice might never be forgotten, are 48 courageous Texans; five of these have been lost in just the past decade, in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; they are U.S. Army Sergeant Gerardo Moreno, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Sean Brady Berry, U.S. Army Specialist Jonathan "J. D." Emard, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Shawn H. McNabb, and U.S. Army Specialist Joseph Michael Lewis; and WHEREAS, To all those honored by the Terrell Veterans Memorial, Americans owe a debt that is beyond measure, and it is indeed fitting that this striking monument be installed to preserve and perpetuate their memory; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the Terrell Veterans Memorial and express profound gratitude to the brave and steadfast individuals whose names are recorded there for the ages; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for the Terrell Marine Corps League and the City of Terrell as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
