H.R. No. 2081 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Andy Cleveland, the longest-serving educator in the history of the Abilene Independent School District, is retiring on May 27, 2011, bringing to a close a remarkable 55-year career as a teacher; and WHEREAS, Ms. Cleveland began teaching in 1956 in Lamesa and then joined the Abilene ISD; she taught at several schools, including Reagan, Bonham, and Lee Elementary, before becoming a special education consulting teacher, and over the 51 years that she has spent in the district, she has earned the admiration of students, parents, and fellow educators alike for her caring, dedicated manner; and WHEREAS, A leader in her profession and community, Ms. Cleveland is president of Education Abilene and a former member of the board of directors for the Texas State Teachers Association; in addition, she has been a member of the National Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International; she has volunteered her time to support the Rape Crisis Center and the Abilene Philharmonic, and she is also a valued congregant at Westminster Presbyterian Church; and WHEREAS, Known for her unwavering commitment to her students, Andy Cleveland has made a positive difference in the lives of countless young Texans and their families, and it is appropriate to take this opportunity to honor her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commend Andy Cleveland on her outstanding career with the Abilene Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes for a very happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Cleveland as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
