 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Department of History at The University of Texas
 at Austin has created an interactive website that puts the
 expertise of its faculty at the service of the general citizenry and
 that provides a public forum for the discussion of historical and
 contemporary events; and
 WHEREAS, Titled Not Even Past, the website derives its name
 from William Faulkner's famous line that "The past is never dead.
 It's not even past," an acknowledgment that historical events
 continue to resonate in the present day; and
 WHEREAS, The Not Even Past website brings together a diverse
 group of historians with international reputations in every major
 historical field and time period and uses new technology to make
 their perspectives on topics in Texas, U.S., and world history
 available to a popular audience; and
 WHEREAS, Led by Professor Joan Neuberger and Chairman Alan
 Tully, the history department established this project in 2010 and
 developed it with existing financial resources; thousands of
 visitors from around the world have already accessed the site,
 which offers book and film recommendations, movie clips, podcasts,
 links to historical documents and artifacts, a fact-checker series,
 and free virtual courses; and
 WHEREAS, This engaging website constitutes a resource of
 remarkable range and further advances the university's goal of
 undertaking programs that benefit all citizens of the Lone Star
 State; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the launching of the website Not
 Even Past by The University of Texas at Austin Department of History
 and extend to all those associated with this project sincere best
 wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the UT Department of History as an expression of high
 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
