                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            May 2, 2011      TO: Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Defense & Veterans' Affairs      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB1635 by Davis (Relating to contributions to the fund for veterans' assistance.), As Engrossed    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend Transportation Code, Section 502.1746, to require the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to include a space on a vehicle registration renewal notice to allow a person renewing a registration to indicate the amount of money the person is voluntarily contributing to the fund for veterans assistance as authorized under current law. The bill would require DMV to provide a method for making a contribution to owners applying for a renewal of a motor vehicle registration using the DMV website and in any registration renewal system that succeeds the system in place on September 1, 2011.   Based on the analysis of DMV, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
