11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 39.203, Education Code, is amended by | |
13 | 13 | amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (d) to read as | |
14 | 14 | follows: | |
15 | 15 | (c) In addition to the distinction designations described | |
16 | 16 | by Subsections (a) and (b), a campus that satisfies the criteria | |
17 | 17 | developed under Section 39.204 shall be awarded a distinction | |
18 | 18 | designation by the commissioner for the following programs or the | |
19 | 19 | following specific categories of performance: | |
20 | 20 | (1) academic achievement in English language arts, | |
21 | 21 | mathematics, science, or social studies; | |
22 | 22 | (2) fine arts; | |
23 | 23 | (3) physical and health education and wellness; | |
24 | 24 | (4) 21st Century Workforce Development program; and | |
25 | 25 | (5) second language acquisition program. | |
26 | 26 | (d) The commissioner may establish partnerships with | |
27 | 27 | private and nonprofit entities to provide monetary and in-kind | |
28 | 28 | rewards to campuses that receive a distinction designation under | |
29 | 29 | this section. | |
30 | 30 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
