77 relating to events to receive funding through a major events trust
88 fund.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subdivisions (4) and (5), Subsection (a),
1111 Section 5A, Chapter 1507 (S.B. 456), Acts of the 76th Legislature,
1212 Regular Session, 1999 (Article 5190.14, Vernon's Texas Civil
1313 Statutes), are amended to read as follows:
1414 (4) "Event" means a Super Bowl, a National Collegiate
1515 Athletic Association Final Four tournament game, the National
1616 Basketball Association All-Star Game, the National Hockey League
1717 All-Star Game, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, a National
1818 Collegiate Athletic Association Bowl Championship Series game, a
1919 World Cup Soccer game, the World Games, a national collegiate
2020 championship of an amateur sport sanctioned by the national
2121 governing body of the sport that is recognized by the United States
2222 Olympic Committee, an Olympic activity, including a Junior or
2323 Senior activity, training program, or feeder program sanctioned by
2424 the United States Olympic Committee's Community Olympic
2525 Development Program, the Breeders' Cup World Championships, [or] a
2626 Formula One automobile race, the Academy of Country Music Awards,
2727 the National Cutting Horse Association Triple Crown, or a national
2828 political convention of the Republican National Committee or the
2929 Democratic National Committee. The term includes any activities
3030 related to or associated with an event.
3131 (5) "Site selection organization" means:
3232 (A) the National Football League, the National
3333 Collegiate Athletic Association, the National Basketball
3434 Association, the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, the
3535 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the
3636 International World Games Association, or the United States Olympic
3737 Committee;
3838 (B) [or] the national governing body of a sport
3939 that is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee, the
4040 National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Formula One Management
4141 Limited, or the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile;
4242 (C) the Academy of Country Music;
4343 (D) the National Cutting Horse Association; or
4444 (E) the Republican National Committee or the
4545 Democratic National Committee.
4646 SECTION 2. Section 5A, Chapter 1507 (S.B. 456), Acts of the
4747 76th Legislature, Regular Session, 1999 (Article 5190.14, Vernon's
4848 Texas Civil Statutes), is amended by adding Subsection (w) to read
4949 as follows:
5050 (w) Not later than 18 months after the last day of an event
5151 eligible for disbursements from the Major Events trust fund for
5252 costs associated with the event, the comptroller using existing
5353 resources shall:
5454 (1) complete a study in the market area of the event on
5555 the measurable economic impact directly attributable to the
5656 preparation for and presentation of the event and related
5757 activities; and
5858 (2) post on the comptroller's Internet website the
5959 results of the study conducted under Subdivision (1) of this
6060 subsection.
6161 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
6262 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
6363 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
6464 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
6565 Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
