| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. The heading to Chapter 54, Occupations Code, is |

| 11 | 11 | | amended to read as follows: |

| 12 | 12 | | CHAPTER 54. EXAMINATION ON RELIGIOUS HOLY DAY; EXAMINATION |

| 13 | 13 | | ACCOMMODATIONS FOR PERSON WITH DYSLEXIA |

| 14 | 14 | | SECTION 2. Chapter 54, Occupations Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | adding Section 54.003 to read as follows: |

| 16 | 16 | | Sec. 54.003. EXAMINATION ACCOMMODATIONS FOR PERSON WITH |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | DYSLEXIA. (a) In this section, "dyslexia" has the meaning |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | assigned by Section 51.970, Education Code. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) For each licensing examination administered by a state |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | agency, the agency shall provide reasonable examination |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | accommodations to an examinee diagnosed as having dyslexia. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (c) Each state agency shall adopt rules necessary to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | implement this section, including rules to establish the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | eligibility criteria an examinee must meet for accommodation under |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | this section. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. (a) Each state agency that offers a licensing |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | examination shall adopt rules to implement Section 54.003, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Occupations Code, as added by this Act, not later than December 1, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 2011. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (b) The change in law made by Section 54.003, Occupations |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Code, as added by this Act, applies only to a licensing examination |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | offered by a state agency on or after January 1, 2012. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
