 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the sealing of applications and orders for the
 installation and use of mobile tracking devices in certain law
 enforcement investigations.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 14, Article 18.21, Code of Criminal
 Procedure, is amended by adding Subsection (e-1) to read as
 follows:
 (e-1)  The district judge shall seal any documents submitted
 to the court under this section, and any order or extension of an
 order issued under this section, until the period authorized by the
 order and extension expires.
 SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
 to an application for a mobile tracking device that is submitted on
 or after the effective date of this Act. An application for a mobile
 tracking device that is submitted before the effective date of this
 Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the application was
 submitted, and the former law is continued in effect for that
 purpose.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
