The bill would require the commissioner of education to revoke the accreditation of any school district that is found by the Attorney General to have knowingly violated the Texas constitution. Based on information provided by the Office of the Attorney General, any costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources. The Texas Education Agency indicate that there could be costs associated with district closure under the provisions of the bill related to State Office of Administrative Hearings proceedings. Additionally, school districts that are closed would be annexed to another school districts. Receiving school districts would be entitled to incentive aid related to consolidation. Costs would vary with the number and frequency of closures. The potential incidence of violations that would trigger closure under the provisions of the bill is unknown.
