99 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1010 AN ACT
1111 relating to the awarding of the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 431.131(d), Government Code, is amended
1414 to read as follows:
1515 (d) The legislature by concurrent resolution may direct the
1616 governor to award the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor to a person
1717 nominated by the nominating committee. The committee chairs
1818 serving on the nominating committee shall jointly prepare a
1919 concurrent resolution directing the governor to award the medal to
2020 a person nominated. The legislature may direct the medal to be
2121 awarded only during a regular session and may not, during a regular
2222 session, direct the medal to be awarded to more than:
2323 (1) one person for service in the state or federal
2424 military forces during the period beginning after 1835 but before
2525 1956; and
2626 (2) one person for service in the state or federal
2727 military forces after 1955 [during a regular session].
2828 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2929 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3030 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3131 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3232 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
