| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 171.002(b), Election Code, is amended to | |
| 11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (b) In addition to the members representing the senatorial | |
| 13 | 13 | districts, the committee has a chair and a vice chair[, one of whom | |
| 14 | 14 | must be a man and the other a woman]. Except as otherwise provided | |
| 15 | 15 | by party rule, the chair and vice chair are considered members of | |
| 16 | 16 | the committee. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 18 | 18 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 19 | 19 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 20 | 20 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 21 | 21 | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
