1010 AN ACT
1111 relating to professional development training for certain public
1212 school personnel regarding student disciplinary procedures.
1313 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1414 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 37, Education Code, is
1515 amended by adding Section 37.0181 to read as follows:
1616 Sec. 37.0181. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REGARDING
1717 DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES. (a) Each principal or other appropriate
1818 administrator who oversees student discipline shall, at least once
1919 every three school years, attend professional development training
2020 regarding this subchapter, including training relating to the
2121 distinction between a discipline management technique used at the
2222 principal's discretion under Section 37.002(a) and the
2323 discretionary authority of a teacher to remove a disruptive student
2424 under Section 37.002(b).
2525 (b) Professional development training under this section
2626 may be provided in coordination with regional education service
2727 centers through the use of distance learning methods, such as
2828 telecommunications networks, and using available agency resources.
2929 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2013-2014
3030 school year.
3131 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3232 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3333 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3434 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3535 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
