12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Section 127.002(b), Election Code, is amended to |
---|
14 | 14 | | read as follows: |
---|
15 | 15 | | (b) To be eligible for appointment, a person must: |
---|
16 | 16 | | (1) have knowledge and experience in the conduct of |
---|
17 | 17 | | elections with the electronic voting system for which the counting |
---|
18 | 18 | | station is established; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | (2) be a registered voter of the political subdivision |
---|
20 | 20 | | served by the authority establishing the counting station, except: |
---|
21 | 21 | | (A) during the first year following the adoption |
---|
22 | 22 | | of the voting system; or |
---|
23 | 23 | | (B) if the person is an employee of the political |
---|
24 | 24 | | subdivision that adopts or owns the voting system. |
---|
25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
26 | 26 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
27 | 27 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
28 | 28 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
29 | 29 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
