1010 relating to the oath taken by a person who assists a voter.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 64.034, Election Code, is amended to
1313 read as follows:
1414 Sec. 64.034. OATH. A person selected to provide assistance
1515 to a voter must take the following oath, administered by an election
1616 officer at the polling place, before providing assistance:
1717 "I swear (or affirm) that I will not suggest, by word,
1818 sign, or gesture, how the voter should vote; I will confine my
1919 assistance to answering the voter's questions, to stating
2020 propositions on the ballot, and to naming candidates and, if
2121 listed, their political parties; [and] I will prepare the voter's
2222 ballot as the voter directs; and I am not the voter's employer,
2323 an agent of the voter's employer, or an officer or agent of a
2424 labor union to which the voter belongs."
2525 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
