A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to new systems and technologies for the financial
responsibility verification program.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter N, Chapter 601, Transportation Code,
is amended by adding Section 601.455 to read as follows:
Sec. 601.455. PROGRAM ENHANCEMENT. (a) The Texas Department
of Insurance shall evaluate systems and technologies to enhance the
performance of the financial responsibility verification program
established under this subchapter in order to reduce the number of
uninsured motorists in this state and may implement those systems
or technologies, subject to Subsection (b).
(b) The Texas Department of Insurance may, under a
competitive bidding procedure, select and contract with an agent,
in addition to any agent selected under Section 601.453, to
develop, implement, operate, maintain, or upgrade any system or
technology that is a component of the financial responsibility
verification program or any additional system or technology to be
implemented under Subsection (a).
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
