| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | is amended by adding Section 225.091 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sec. 225.091. TROOPER EDUARDO CHAVEZ MEMORIAL HIGHWAY. (a) |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | The portion of U.S. Highway 83 in Starr County from the eastern |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | boundary of Starr County to Farm-to-Market Road 2360 or the most |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | appropriate point west of Farm-to-Market Road 2360, as determined |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | by the department, shall serve as a memorial to Trooper Eduardo |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Chavez. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (b) Subject to Section 225.021(c), the department shall: |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (1) design and construct markers indicating that the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | portion of U.S. Highway 83 described in Subsection (a) is a memorial |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to Trooper Eduardo Chavez, and any other appropriate information; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (2) erect a marker at each end of the highway and at |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | appropriate intermediate sites along the highway. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
