| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Section 6002.158(c), Insurance Code, is amended |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (c) Training school instructors must be approved by the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | state fire marshal. To be eligible for approval, an instructor |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | must: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (1) hold a fire alarm planning superintendent license, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a residential fire alarm superintendent license, or a fire alarm |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | technician license; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (2) have at least three years of experience in fire |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | alarm installation, service, or monitoring. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to an application for approval or renewal of approval of a training |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | school instructor submitted to the state fire marshal on or after |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the effective date of this Act. An application submitted before the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
